Nurcan Baysal was born in Diyarbakır in 1975. She completed her high school education in Diyarbakır. Ms. Baysal graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Science in 1996 and completed her masters degree in International Relations at Bilkent University in 1997. Baysal who worked with UNDP between 1997 and 2007, worked as development officer at Özyeğin Foundation from 2007 to 2013. Nurcan Baysal conducts studies regarding forced migration, facing the mistakes of the past sides of the Kurdish issue as well as developmental and poverty facets of it. Baysal is one of the founders of Diyarbakır Institute of Political and Social Studies. Moreover Baysal has been serving in the advisory or managerial boards of various institutions such as Global Fund for Women, Women’s Labour and Employment Platform, Emergency Support Fund and Mesopotamia Foundation. She has received the creativity award from World Women’s Summit 2010. Baysal is authoring articles on various websites and platforms such as T24. Her first book ‘O Gün (in Turkish)’ was published in February 2014 and her second book which is co-authored by Şeyhmus Diken entitled’Kürdistan’da Sivil Toplum (in Turkish)’ is going to be  published by the end of year 2014.
