Dr. Joost Jongerden holds a PhD in social sciences. He is an assistant professor at the Sociology and Anthropology of Development Sub-Department of Wageningen University, the Netherlands, and has a special appointment as Associate Professor at the Kyoto University, Japan. He is interested in spatial sociology: the relations between politics, power and place. His current research focuses on the places of alternatives: the spatial dimensions of struggles for autonomy.
