2013 has been declared by UNESCO “The year of Piri Reis” on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Map of 1513. As one of the most beautiful and mysterious maps to survive the Great Age of Discoveries drawn by the Ottoman Admiral Piri Reis,“The Piri Reis World Map” is an invaluable piece of the World’s documentary heritage as it provides insight on the history of its time. The conference is held with the cooperation of the University of Greenwich and University of Piri Reis to reveal the mystery of this world heritage piece.
